Travis Ekmark, one of group’s founders, explains that, “The concept for this show emerged as a result of watching ‘handmade’ and ‘craft’ evolve from ‘a way of making things’ into a full-fledged trend with its own assumed aesthetic. We put this show together because we respect crafty, well-made things, but wished to suggest an expanded definition of what those things could look and be like. With graphic design being a primarily computer-based practice in 2011, it seemed to be an interesting angle to cull handmade work from designers and artists who spend most of their waking hours in the digital realm. In fact, this show aims to pay tribute to artisanship by upsetting its assumptions and de facto aesthetic.” (via Preview: Made at Octane Coffee | Atlanta A&E Blog | Atlanta Galleries, Visual Arts, Theater | Culture Surfing | Creative Loafing Atlanta)
